Hamiltonia takes on the Other
Posted by: Fringe in Australia, Censorship, Internet, Politics
Match of the day:
High Priest of Hamiltonia, Clive Hamilton vs ‘The Dreaded Net Libertarians’ (those who adher to technological argument or otherwise fail to bow to the ‘post-secular’ Dark Ages Renaissance and its absolute moral dogma).
Result:
Hamilton -9 (strawmen score negatively) : ‘The Dreaded Net Libertarians’ 4,009,009
The knockout blow was:
Hacker: So what you mean to tell me is that this filter will slow the net down to a crawl? What the hell is it doing?
Sir Humphrey: It constantly screens the searches of the constituents.
Hacker: But it doesnt BLOCK anything.
Sir Humphrey: Well, this is a democracy after all.
Ancillary strikes came from here, there, here and there with a staggering body blow from Save the Children.
Down for the count, will Hamiltonia gracefully retire to its ivory citadel in the west or return for yet another almighty flaying? As they say in the marketing game, all publicity is good publicity. Intellectual dismemberment as a spectator sport can be very entertaining. Stay tuned folks!
UPDATE Dec 2
Report on NSW Internet Filtering Forum
But at the end of the day, a show of hands amongst 50 participants revealed that no one in the room supported the filtering scheme.
For future reference, the forum was live-blogged.
A Very Christian Boss – Syd Walker takes a snapshot of Jim Wallace, whose corporate entity, the Australian Christian Lobby, fondly embraces Conroy’s infamous proposed net filtering.
Hoyden About Town takes issue with Hamiltonia’s absurd decree that the internet is just like books, films and magazines.
FLASHBACK TO Sept 05
Ex-Labor opposition leader Mark Latham:
Sphere: Related ContentThe political class in this country is narrowing into two types of characters: the flint-hearted machine men who are happy to do whatever it takes, and the freaks and weirdos of the religious right, with their sexual hang-ups and policy obsessions. This is happening on both sides of politics.
